Godparent Program
It has never been easier to be a part of meaningful change. You can make a wonderful difference in the life of a child by becoming a godparent who contributes to a child’s educational and social development.
Godparenting is also a beautiful way to learn more about the daily lives of our children in Uganda. You will receive regular updates on your godchild’s academic and social progress as well as their overall well-being.
Sponsors of our children are usually driven by love and the simple passion for helping others, expecting nothing in return. However, our children have big hearts, too, and are incredibly grateful for the kindness that transforms their lives.
When a child becomes a godchild, they are often very curious to meet their new godparent— and vice versa! We are happy to provide both sides with the opportunity to introduce themselves through a video call. These interactions offer a glimpse into the daily life of the child and their community, helping godparents better understand the culture and build a deeper connection. All godparents are also warmly invited to visit their godchildren in person.
Currently, there are about 120 children on our waiting list for the sponsorship program. Many of them have experienced difficult, often heartbreaking circumstances. Some are ill and cannot afford treatment, others have been abandoned by their parents or have lost them altogether. It is not uncommon for a mother to care for four or more children on her own—a situation that, sadly, is considered normal here.
To ensure fairness in the allocation of sponsorships, we have developed a system that considers factors such as financial need, family circumstances, reliability and eagerness to learn. Additionally, a child’s age, waiting time and academic progress compared to their peers are taken into account.

How much does it cost?
Education in Uganda is structured around grade levels, and fees rise with each new school year — meaning our older children naturally require a little more support than the younger ones. The total cost of a sponsorship consists of school fees as well as additional expenses such as a uniform, lunch, and other necessities. For a precise breakdown of what applies to your specific sponsored child in the upcoming year, you are welcome to reach out to the head of the organisation directly.
The current annual cost for a primary school sponsorship ranges between 1,180,000 UGX and 2,050,000 UGX, depending on the child's grade. From secondary school onwards, the annual cost for a day school sponsorship is 2,050,000 UGX. We want to be transparent: due to inflation, there is a possibility that fees may increase in the coming years. Should a school adjust its fees, you will be informed promptly and well in advance.
It also becomes possible from secondary school onwards to enroll a child in a boarding school, which provides a more structured and focused learning environment. In that case, the annual cost is 2,430,000 UGX.
Where possible, we kindly ask for annual payments — not as a strict requirement, but because it gives the children and their families a reliable foundation to plan around. If an annual payment feels like a lot, termly payments work just as well. What matters most is that the child can count on their sponsorship being there — consistency and reliability make all the difference in their ability to focus on school without uncertainty hanging over them.
